Juventus scores late to salvage draw with Sevilla in Europa League semis

Rome, May 12 (BNA): Substitute Federico Gatti scored a goal deep in stoppage time to slam Juventus 1-1 against six-time champions Sevilla in the first leg of the Europa League semi-finals on Thursday.

Gatti scored the equalizer in the seventh minute of extra time in Turin to keep the Italian team’s hopes of winning the European Cup alive after a long drought, reports the Associated Press.

Juventus have won the competition when it was known as the UEFA Cup three times, most recently in 1993. The team will have to win the second leg next week for a chance to claim their first European trophy since winning the Champions League in 1996.

Sevilla have won the title six times and once again the Spanish side have proven themselves to be the title contenders.

Youssef Al-Nusairi scored in the 26th minute to end a deadly counter-attack by Seville, which knocked out Manchester United in the quarter-finals. It was the striker’s 18th goal in all competitions.

The visitors suffered a setback when Lucas Ocampos, who had several attempts on goal, was substituted in the 34th minute due to injury.
