Joiner, NC State run past Dayton in Battle 4 Atlantis

WASHINGTON, Nov. 25 (U.S.): Jarkel Joiner scored 20 of his 27 points after halftime, and North Carolina State used a huge second-half run to dominate Dayton 76-64 in Thursday’s consolation bracket at Battle 4 Atlantis.

Najjar especially thrived on the foul line by making 11 of 13 free throws after halftime for the Wolfpack (5-1). Terquavion Smith added 11 points, while Jack Clark had 10 points and nine rebounds, reports the Associated Press.

The Wolfpack dominated 17-0 after trailing 39-38, starting with transitional Dusan Mahorcic. Joyner scored seven points during the run, including a three-point play to cap off the rush, while D.J. Burns (10 points) scored twice on inside.

When the race was over, NC State led 55-39 and held the Flyers (3-3) scoreless for four crucial minutes.

Both teams shot 49% and neither hit the ball well from behind the arc, with Dayton making just 6 of 22 3-pointers (27.3%) and NC State going 2 of 11 (18.2%).

Tomani Kamara scored 19 points for the Flyers, who were the 10th favorite in the preseason Atlantic and the 21st in the AP Top 25 before losing this week. Dayton lost 43-42 to Wisconsin on Wednesday.

The Wolfpack advanced to the fifth place game on Friday, where they will face NC State Butler. The Flyers will play BYU in the seventh-place game.
