Jakobsen overtakes Van Aert on line to win Tour stage 2

Paris, July 2 (BUS): Dutch rider Fabio Jakobsen straight past Wut van Aert to win the second stage of the Tour de France as Van Aert donned the yellow jersey on Saturday.

It was a first stage win for Jacobsen and a second in two days for Team Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl after Yves Lampaert won Friday’s beta.

But Van Aert took the yellow jersey with a six-second bonus to finish second, leading Lambert one second overall.

Two-time defending champion Tadig Boggar finished third in the overall standings and was eight seconds behind Van Aert, according to the Associated Press.

Pogačar stayed nine seconds ahead of his main rival Primo Roglič, who finished eighth in the overall standings. They both ended up in the main package and didn’t take time for each other. Roglic was runner-up in 2020 and has won the last three rounds of the Spanish Vueltas.

After the peloton crossed the massive Great Belt suspension bridge, several riders fell near the back of the pack with two kilometers left to finish at Nyborg.
