Jabeur wins Berlin Open, comforts injured Bencic

Berlin, June 19 (BUS): Anas Jaber won the Berlin Open on Sunday. Right now, it didn’t matter at all to her, according to the Associated Press.

Jabeur was leading 6-3, 2-1 when Belinda Bencic indicated she could not continue into the final after injuring her left ankle with a fall in the first set.

Jaber Bencic gave words to rest at the net, then quickly prepared an ice cooler for the Swiss player to rest her injured ankle.

I told her, ‘Forget it, forget it today. “The most important thing for me is that she is fine,” Jaber said.

Jaber is moving to 3-5 in the finals of his career, almost a year after the Tunisian won the Birmingham Classic and became the first Arab woman to win a WTA singles title.

Since then, she has climbed up the rankings to become a regular in the top five and won a remarkable victory at the Madrid Open last month.

Its flag-waving Tunisian fans were a staple in Berlin all week and were in full swing on Sunday.

Bencic started the match slowly, perhaps due to exhaustion from four matches of three sets this week, but she quickly entered the match strong.

She slipped and injured her ankle chasing a wide serve while she was in a tie with Jabeur leading 5-3 in the first set. She was in a tough game with four break points for Bencic.

Jaber served in the first set before Bencic, last year’s Olympic gold medalist, tried to play in the second. She was clearly upset while serving and retiring after Jaber broke in the third game.

“You deserve that title and I don’t really want to take this moment away from you,” Bencic told Jaber.
