Italy’s Dolce & Gabbana to ditch fur

Milan, Feb. 2 (BUS) – Italian luxury fashion house Dolce & Gabbana said in a joint statement with the Humane Society International for animal rights that it will stop using fur in all of its collections from this year.

“The entire fashion system has an important role in social responsibility that must be strengthened and encouraged,” said the group’s communications and marketing officer, Fidel Usai, as quoted by Reuters.

The label will switch to eco-fur apparel and accessories, while continuing to collaborate with professional fur makers to preserve functionality and knowledge.

In an effort to attract younger customers, who are increasingly influenced by ethical and environmental issues, several brands have already committed to banning animal fur including Armani, Kering, Prada, Valentino, Versace, Moncler, and luxury e-commerce platform Yoox Net-a-Porter.
