Rome, November 10 (BNA): Italy plans to offer a booster vaccine against COVID-19 to people aged 40 to 60 from December.
“The third stab is very strategic to move forward with the vaccination campaign,” Health Minister Roberto Speranza said in a question-and-answer session at the Chamber of Deputies in Rome on Wednesday.
About 2.5 million people have already been offered a booster vaccine. According to Speranza, Italy began vaccinating vulnerable groups first, people over 60, health workers and those who received the only Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Speranza said that the more countries could provide a third dose, the better the epidemic could be controlled in the fall and winter.
According to the Italian Ministry of Health, as of Wednesday, nearly 84 percent of people over the age of 12 have been fully vaccinated.
