Investigations in seven tax evasion reports completed

Manama, Jan. 2 (BNA) The head of the Tax Evasion Crimes Unit at the Public Prosecution stated that the unit has completed its investigations into seven cases of tax evasion, in violation of the provisions of Law (40) of 2017 regarding selective tax. Tax, and refer the accused to the criminal court.

The Tax Evasion Crimes Unit has received reports from the National Revenue Agency stating that seven commercial outlets working in the field of importing and selling tobacco and its products have violated the provisions of the Excise Tax Law and its executive regulations regarding the registration of selective goods, including tobacco and its products, electronic hookah devices and liquid tobacco, and the payment of the tax due.

Shops also charged partial payments on these excise goods, manufactured and produced excise goods without paying the taxes due, and submitted incorrect documents and false statements, in an attempt to evade paying the taxes due.

The Tax Evasion Crimes Unit listened to the testimonies of the judicial control officers in the NBR regarding the inspected shops, selective goods, submitted documents and the amounts of tax due, which amounted to 679,642,000 Bahraini dinars in the seven cases.

The unit also interrogated the officials of the violating stores, provided them with evidence, and ordered their referral to the relevant criminal court.

The head of the unit stressed that the Public Prosecution will take all legally prescribed measures to confront all economic and financial crimes because of their extremely harmful effects on investment and the national economy.
