Manama, Mar. 16 (BNA): The Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament, Nikoloz Samkharadze, said that international gatherings such as the meetings of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly provide a platform for exchanging ideas and addressing issues and challenges.

He stressed that meeting with people from all over the world to discuss the issue of terrorism and its challenges facilitates access to its roots and prevention.

He pointed out that terrorism has become a problem of the twenty-first century, adding that no country is immune from terrorism, whether it is domestic or imported.

He told the Bahrain News Agency (BNA) during the 146th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and related meetings held in Bahrain, the more you talk about it, the easier it will be to solve it.

“Talking about problems, talking about challenges, talking about the causes of violent extremism, talking about the root causes of terrorism; I think it helps everyone realize that only joint action can prevent this kind of vice of humanity from emerging and flourishing.”

Samkharadze said that this kind of gathering where democratically elected parliamentarians from around the world tackle current challenges is an important contribution to preventing them in the future.

The agenda of the IPU Assembly and related meetings held in Bahrain included discussions on international peace and security, cybercrime, countering terrorism and violent extremism.

The principles of dialogue and peacebuilding, and countering terrorism, have been on the agenda of the Inter-Parliamentary Union since the early twentieth century and are in line with Bahrain’s foreign policy.
