Interior Minister stresses Bahrain’s proactive role in promoting integrity

Manama, Dec. 9 (BNA): Interior Minister Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa delivered the following speech on the occasion of the International Anti-Corruption Day, which falls on December 9:

The Kingdom of Bahrain participates in the International Anti-Corruption Day on December 9, to reflect its firm determination to combat crime that hinders sustainable development efforts. Countries are convinced that combating and preventing corruption requires serious and active programs and initiatives.

The Kingdom of Bahrain has always been proactive in its initiatives, programs and efforts to enhance international cooperation. The era of reform of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa established the rules governing anti-corruption efforts, awareness-raising practices, and transparency within an integrated system for protection against corruption.

And I expressed my appreciation for the keenness and interest of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in preserving public money. It supports performance that promotes a culture of integrity in developing innovative anti-corruption solutions and advancing sustainable development plans and goals in accordance with Bahrain Vision 2030.

Bahrain seeks to strengthen its active regional and international presence at various levels within the framework of international anti-corruption cooperation, especially since Bahrain is a member of the United Nations and Arab anti-corruption conventions. This year it organized an international operational network of law enforcement authorities to eradicate corruption.

Based on the responsibility of all parties to promote the principles of integrity and transparency, the National Anti-Corruption Day comes to confirm cooperation and integration among members of society to provide awareness initiatives for all sectors, organizations and individuals.

The participation of the public and stakeholders in awareness-raising procedures is essential to highlight corruption risks as part of the national anti-corruption strategy.

I would like to commend the role of the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security, which dealt with 98 anti-corruption cases, including three cases of criminal suspicions referred by the Council of Ministers regarding the reports of the Office of Financial Supervision.

I appreciate the role of awareness in promoting integrity and transparency through national campaigns and awareness activities to enhance the national performance in combating corruption. I commend the efforts of the concerned authorities in protecting public funds and national achievements.

I appreciate the role of all ministries and organizations for their cooperation and valuable initiatives for cooperation and coordination in awareness activities. May God protect Bahrain and bless security under the leadership of His Majesty the King.
