Washington, June 6 (BNA): Interior Minister Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa attended a ceremony hosted by the US-based “Dary” Foundation for awareness of drug resistance. On the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of its founding.
Bahrain’s ambassador to Washington and the first member of the organization’s board of directors from outside the United States, Sheikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa, also attended.
A platform for peaceful coexistence and combating extremism was launched as part of the process of modernizing the program to combat violence and addiction “Together”, which is being implemented by the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The training curriculum was translated into Arabic, in line with Arab customs and traditions, in partnership with the American DARE organization.
Francisco Pejeros, CEO at the ceremony held at the headquarters of the United States Institute of Peace of the US Congress, emphasized that Bahrain’s implementation of the program is exemplary.
He stressed the positive impact of the program, noting that the curricula were reviewed and evaluated in cooperation and partnership with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
He praised the efforts made to develop the approach to peaceful coexistence and combating extremism, stressing that these endeavors strengthened the close relationship between the organization, the Bahraini Ministry of Interior and the university.
Michelle Leonhart, Chairman of the Board of Directors of DARE, who previously served as Director of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, confirmed that the program is taught annually to more than 2.5 million students in the United States and 28 other countries,
She praised the partnership between the organization and the Ministry of Interior in the Kingdom of Bahrain, describing Bahrain’s implementation of the program as a role model.

He praised the successful launch of the approach to peaceful coexistence and combating extremism, describing the plan as an essential step in the concerted collective efforts to confront extremism, which represents a global challenge.
He stressed the ministry’s efforts to promote basic values to combat intolerance and extremism, highlighting the national plan to strengthen national belonging and consolidate the values of citizenship (Bahraini).
He pointed out that “the scheme, which was launched in 2019, aims to enhance the sense of community and national belonging among all members of Bahraini society, and to consolidate the principles of unity, development and prosperity.”
He praised the role of the community police in strengthening the partnership between citizens and the police and implementing programs aimed at combating intolerance and extremism.
He pointed out that the ministry launched the “Together” program to combat violence and addiction, endorsed by the DARE Foundation in the United States, which has reduced children’s misbehavior in schools by 56 percent since its establishment in 2011.
Speaking at the ceremony, the minister quoted His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa as saying in a keynote speech, “Ignorance is the enemy of peace, and it is our duty to learn, share and live together through our belief in a faith that unites in a spirit of love and mutual respect.”
He stressed the importance of the curricula as an initiative in line with His Majesty’s vision, aimed at promoting tolerance, peace and mutual respect, and promoting core values through education.
He explained that “the ministry is striving to raise a generation that is more resistant to extremism and is ready to confront extremist ideas with messages of tolerance and peaceful coexistence,” pointing to the effective impact of the “Together” program on schoolchildren in Bahrain.
