Interior Minister: Bahrain a pioneer in fighting corruption

Manama, December 8 (BNA) The Minister of Interior, Lieutenant-General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa today delivered the following speech on the occasion of the International Anti-Corruption Day:

Bahrain’s celebration of the International Anti-Corruption Day on December 9 affirms its rejection and fight against crime as it is an obstacle to sustainable development and contradicts the future of societies and economies worldwide. In addition, this day is an occasion to remind all their rights and the fight against corruption.

“This day represents an international dedication to achieving economic recovery through integrity standards. Thus, the Kingdom of Bahrain has been a pioneer in strengthening international cooperation to combat corruption. It has renewed its commitment to fighting corruption to meet national strategies and international agreements, especially the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

The reform project undertaken by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has created an institution that reflects Bahrain’s keenness to move forward in its efforts to promote awareness and integrity. In addition to promoting more open and transparent practices within a comprehensive system to protect against corruption. The dedication of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to protecting public money with integrity, a trustworthy and responsible approach, and promoting a culture of integrity is something we highly appreciate.

Proceeding from the understanding that transparency and integrity are moral values ​​to combat corruption, the Kingdom of Bahrain has taken proactive and preventive methods to combat corruption through several laws and to enhance community partnership through community presence.

The Directorate General of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security dealt with 96 cases of embezzlement, bribery and abuse of power. In addition to three violations referred by the Council of Ministers that were mentioned in the report of the Financial Supervision Bureau. Moreover, the awareness role continues through efforts to enhance integrity and transparency through national campaigns and other various activities to enhance the national level of anti-corruption in accordance with international standards.

Efforts are continuing to enhance international cooperation to fulfill the United Nations Convention and build strong relationships with international partners. In addition to strengthening relationships with international partners and operations of regional and international bodies, besides learning new experiences and building organizational capacity.

Finally, I commend the anti-corruption efforts made by all relevant bodies and ministries for their valuable cooperation and coordination initiatives to enhance transparency and integrity.
