Indonesia records highest inflation since 2014

Jakarta, Oct 4 (BNA): Indonesia’s inflation rate in September reached 1.17 percent, the highest level since December 2014, as a result of rising fuel prices in the country, the Indonesian Statistical Bureau (BPS) reported Monday.

The annual inflation rate rose to 5.95 percent on an annual basis, according to Bernama.

“The increase in inflation was mainly caused by the increase in fuel prices, which then led to an increase in tariffs on public transportation, online taxi rates, and rice prices,” BPS President Margo Yoono told a press conference.

Since September, Indonesia has raised domestic fuel prices by 30 percent in the wake of financial pressures.

The price of peritalite gasoline, the most consumed type in the country, rose to 10,000 rupees ($0.65) per liter from 7,650 rupees ($0.50) previously.
