India wins its 1,000th ODI with 22 overs left v West Indies

Ahmedabad, Feb 6 (BNA): India celebrated its 1,000th international contender in a day with a landslide win of six wickets over the West Indies with an additional 22 points on Sunday.

Rohit Sharma scored 60 on his debut as a full-time ODI captain in India. His team easily chased after the West Indies team’s total of 176 in their first one-day international.

India finished 178-4 in victory in just 28 matches – with 132 balls remaining – to advance 1-0 in the three-match series. The West Indies were all at 43.5 points, according to the Associated Press

India became the first team to achieve the 1000 mark with their first international match against England in 1974 at Headingley Stadium.

Sunday’s historic match marked the start of a new chapter for India as Sharma takes charge from Virat Kohli as captain of the white ball formats.

Yozvendra Chahal won 4-49 and Washington Sundar 3-30 after India won the toss and chose to play.

In 3–45 of 12 increments, visitors haven’t really started. Muhammad Siraj (1-26) made the initial achievement by removing the Hope tea (8) early on. Sundar brought back Brandon King (13) and Darren Bravo (18) with the West Indies struggling for partnerships as India pressed their advantage.

Chahal hit a triple hit in the middle as the West Indies were reduced to 78-6 in a 21.5 increase. Nicholas Buran (18) caught his leg before the wicket, while Pollard (0) didn’t bother the scorers. Chahal took his third slot on nine balls as Shamara Brooks was caught (12).

Jason Holder (57) scored the anchor half century where the West Indies escaped embarrassment. He added 78 runs to the eighth wicket with Fabian Allen (29).

In response, India was not at the same time. Openers Sharma and Ishaan Kishan (28) put in 84 only 79 balls. Sharma hit 10, four, and six in his 51-ball innings, scoring 44 in the ODI half century.

Alzari Joseph (2-45) sent off Kohli (8), who played uncharacteristically short shots for four consecutive short balls and was caught in the beautiful leg.

Rishabh Pant (11) ran out after he threw Kishan away from his start and hid. India was at 116-4 at 17.3.
