iGA discusses ICT cooperation with Pakistan counterpart

Manama, November 24 (BNA) The Information and e-Government Authority held a second video conference with its Pakistani counterpart, which discussed cooperation opportunities in the information and communications technology sector.

The two sides reviewed the decisions of the first meeting, where the two parties expressed their readiness for further cooperation.

A presentation was made on the Information and eGovernment Authority’s deployment of advanced services and systems, in line with the directives of the Supreme Council for Information and Communications Technology, headed by Deputy Prime Minister His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa and with the support of the Minister of Interior. Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa.

The presentation addressed the main objectives of the Information and eGovernment Authority, which are in line with the Kingdom’s high-level strategies, as detailed in the government action plan 2019-2022 and the financial balance program.

The Information and eGovernment Authority has highlighted the most prominent electronic services it provides to citizens, residents and companies, including the electronic key, the national system for suggestions and complaints (Tawasul) and the government notification service. Major projects led by the Information and eGovernment Authority include improvements to ID card services, digital transformation of judicial services, the Benayat platform, and more.

More than 587 e-services are currently being offered through the national portal bahrain.bh and self-service kiosks, in cooperation with public and private entities. It is also available via the e-government app store, bahrain.bh/apps, which provides more than 20 apps including e-traffic, government employee and Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) apps. The meeting dealt with cloud computing policy first in the Kingdom, which prioritizes the use of cloud computing in promoting government services and innovation. Technology had a significant impact in reducing spending, improving information security, simplifying procedures, and raising the productivity and efficiency of public services.

The Kingdom’s experience in facing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic was also highlighted, including high technological readiness, as demonstrated by the BeAware Bahrain application, which provides technical assistance to the National Task Force to combat the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and helped limit the spread of the virus. . Another example is the development of an electronic meeting system that helped maintain business continuity in government agencies.
