Manama, Apr. 8 (BNA): The Information and e-Government Authority, Chief Executive Officer, Muhammad Al-Qaed, announced that the Information and e-Government Authority will achieve success in the operations and governance sector during the year 2022.


He praised the follow-up of the Minister of Interior, Major General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Information and Communication Technology.


He pointed out that the achievements came in line with the government’s directions and aspirations to achieve national goals and strategies, in addition to the achievements of operations and governance that contributed to the development and improvement of the quality of government services and their outputs, with the aim of ultimately improving the quality of government services. life for citizens and residents.


Al-Qaed affirmed that the Information and e-Government Authority reviewed about 3,714 government requests, through the National Committee for Information and Communication Technology Governance, with a completion rate of 3.7 days for each request in 2022.


The committee also updated computer hardware procurement standards, prepared and revised the government data backup policy, in addition, it managed to reduce the cost of IT projects by 24% by improving government procurement of information technology.


The operations and governance sector also prepared and reviewed plans to activate and implement digital policies, and signed 3 agreements with Batelco, Amazon and Cisco, in addition to launching 7 initiatives to develop information technology policies and standards, and completing and passing the review of 103 projects. Purchases worth 22 million Bahraini dinars for more than 50 government agencies during the past year.

With regard to the single entry system (ekey), the Information and eGovernment Authority indicated that the operation and governance team managed to raise the capacity of the electronic key system and increase the number of electronic key users to more than 644 thousand users, indicating that the number of authentications that were verified through the key It reached 18. million in 2022.


This is in addition to improving the system interface and adding a PIN encoded in the electronic key notifications sent to users. The electronic key system has been linked to the SIEM system to enhance security levels and proactively respond to any potential risks, in addition to enhancing confidentiality and data privacy features for electronic key users.


Al Qaed highlighted the achievements of linking the electronic key system to self-service platforms (eKiosk), which enabled citizens and residents to easily upgrade their electronic account from the basic level to the advanced level through the eKiosk system.


With regard to monitoring the business continuity of government systems, the Executive Directorate confirmed that the operation and governance sector was able, during the year 2022, to provide more than (80) monitoring systems and more than (650) enhanced devices to monitor the government network around the clock. More than (2263) technical problems were addressed and resolved, with an improvement in the performance of monitoring systems by 25%.


Al-Qaed pointed out the completion of the equipment of the recovery room, the addition of a records system to the monitoring system, the completion of the modernization of the government systems hosting room in the Information and e-Government Authority, in addition to providing support to more than 55 government agencies.

As for the cloud infrastructure of the government sector, the leader said that about 85% of government data has been transferred to the Amazon Web Services (AWS) platform, and the backup system update has been completed. In addition, the load distribution system has been upgraded to increase system availability, improve application performance and stability, and complement Microsoft’s cloud environment.


The Leader also referred to the achievements of the Operations and Governance sector in terms of strengthening connectivity to the Government Data Network (GDN). More than 300 sites have been connected to the government network, Internet speed has been increased, the domain system framework (.gov.bh) has been updated, as well as government data centers linked with Cisco technology to improve the speed of hosting systems. . This is in addition to the GCC network by linking the UAE and Kuwait systems through the Zajel network.


The Information & eGovernment Authority concluded by referring to the sector’s achievements in the geospatial database (GIS), with the participation of 75 government agencies, and was demonstrated by producing more than 260 geospatial maps and linking more than 48 government systems to the geospatial database in 2022.


The Geographic Information Systems team also worked on preparing all soil maps in the Kingdom of Bahrain and processing all maps of governorates, roads and streets in cooperation with the Real Estate Regulatory Agency (RERA), noting that the Information and e-Government Authority recently launched the Agricultural Atlas project during the Bahrain period.
