Manama, February 7 (BNA): The Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (DERASAT), the International Society for Energy Economics, its Saudi counterpart (SAEE), and the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center. (KAPSARC) held a virtual press to discuss progress towards holding the 2nd IAEE Middle East and North Africa Symposium and the 5th Annual Studies Forum on 2 and 3 March in Bahrain.
This year’s theme is “The Impact of the Energy Transition in the Middle East and North Africa”.
The event aims to measure the ambitious economic and development goals and achievements in the countries of the Middle East and North Africa, especially the Arab Gulf states, towards their ambitious environmental goals and efforts to reduce pollution and climate change while preparing to bear and benefit from the global transition to green. An energy mix that focuses on renewables and alternatives.
Research organizations are the cornerstone of these comparisons, as they provide guidance through scientific observations of these energy developments, taking into account the geopolitical and geoeconomic factors influencing the course of events.
Following a call for papers in the fourth quarter of 2021, an impressive response was received from over 30 contributors, including leading scholars, researchers, field experts and market analysts; The result of a rigorous evaluation process. These proposals will propose either solutions or cooperation initiatives aimed at achieving the goals pursued by the energy and environment sectors, taking into account national economic concerns and priorities.
“The Kingdom of Bahrain and a number of Gulf Cooperation Council countries, the Middle East and North Africa are aiming to reach net zero emissions by 2060, and the next four decades require extensive research to provide scientifically, economically and environmentally feasible decisions, policies and solutions,” said Executive Director of Studies, Dr. Hamad Al-Abdullah.
He added, “This represents the first global partnership to organize the annual Dirasat Forum, and we are proud to have it alongside the” Foundation”, the Saudi Association for Energy Economics (SAEE), and KAPSARC.”
The shift towards renewable energy sources and alternative fuels continues to demand more research to provide better information on policy-making and decision-making processes in both oil-exporting and oil-importing countries.
The Sustainable Development Goals have led governments to seek to cut emissions, rethink legislation, and calculate the financial burden or mitigation associated with adopting one form of energy mix rather than another. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the understanding of how complacency will impact if the global economy delays further actions towards a just and efficient energy transition, and will be at the center of many countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
The International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE) is pleased to partner with Derasat, a recognized think tank for delivering outstanding research and collaboration in the MENA region. The 2nd IAEE MENA Symposium and 5th Annual Study Forum will bring the region’s energy leaders together to discuss and debate the ongoing energy transformation within the MENA region. We will cover topics such as developments in green energy and driving the circular carbon economy, and artificial intelligence.
