Hyundai, Rolls-Royce sign MOU for air mobility development

Seoul, July 19 (BNA) Hyundai Motor Group has signed a preliminary agreement with Rolls-Royce to develop Advanced Air Transport (AAM) at the British International Air Show.

The partnership aims to bring all-electric propulsion and hydrogen fuel cell technology to the AAM market, Hyundai claims.

Hyundai expects to combine hydrogen fuel cell technologies with Rolls-Royce’s aerospace and certification expertise to accelerate the development of hydrogen fuel cell propulsion systems, according to South Korean news agency YONHAP.

“Hyundai has successfully delivered hydrogen fuel cell systems to the global automotive market and is now exploring the feasibility of electric and hydrogen propulsion technologies for aerospace integration,” said Shin Jae-won, chief business officer of Hyundai AAM.

“We believe this will be the key technology to support the global aviation industry’s goal of raising net carbon emissions by 2050.”
