Hundreds of thousands of Argentinians without electricity in heatwave

Buenos Aires, Jan. 12 (BUS): In the midst of an intense heat wave, power was cut off in many places in the greater Buenos Aires region.

About 700,000 people in the Argentine capital and its suburbs were without electricity on Tuesday, the German news agency (dpa) reported.

According to media reports, the cause of the power outage was a fire in one of the power lines outside Buenos Aires.

Earlier, network operators reported peak electricity demand as many people turned on their air conditioners.

About 39°C was measured in Buenos Aires at noon (1500 GMT).

The heat wave, with a temperature of more than 35 degrees, is expected to continue until Sunday.
