Human Rights Council’s decision to end probe committee’s mandate is victory for truth, led by Bahrain

Manama, October 8 (BNA): The decision of the United Nations Human Rights Council to terminate the mandate of the United Nations Group of Eminent International and Regional Experts on Yemen came in time to end the use of the United Nations entity to serve Yemen. Issa Al-Arabi, head of the Arab Federation for Human Rights, said that political agendas and goals are far from the lofty values and principles of international human rights.

Issa Al-Arabi stressed the importance of the Human Rights Council’s resolution, saying that it will enhance the promotion and protection of civilians in the country.

The wonderful decision came under the leadership of Bahrain and the alliance of the Arab, African and Asian groups.

With this achievement, the Kingdom of Bahrain demonstrated its pivotal international role in the field of human rights, after it endeavored diligently and through the tireless efforts made by the Bahraini Mission to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, led by Ambassador Dr. Yousef Abdul Karim. Bucheery, to demonstrate the real needs of civilians in Yemen.

“The international community looks to the Human Rights Council to protect and promote human rights around the world and to contribute to strengthening international efforts to achieve security and peace and to ensure their just and non-discriminatory enjoyment by all.”

He added that the council did not contribute to achieving these noble goals for civilians in Yemen, specifically through international experts and their duties and responsibilities in investigating violations and crimes related to international human rights and humanitarian law.

“The work of international experts over the years has been characterized by imbalances and divisions that have contributed to deviation from its primary mandate and have been used to serve political agendas and goals far from the lofty values and principles of the human rights world,” she said.

“Therefore, the Human Rights Council, in its capacity as the representative of the international community, took the initiative to live up to its responsibilities towards civilians and end the mandate of the international group of experts that spanned for years without any positive prospects. The group’s approach has in fact contributed to deepening divisions and prolonging the conflict and human suffering of civilians in Yemen.”

He pointed out that the international community realized that the Group of Eminent Experts, with the support of the European Group, failed to achieve a better reality for civilians in Yemen, after all parties involved in the conflict in Yemen refused to cooperate with them.

The two parties decided not to cooperate after realizing that the work of the group deviated from international standards and that the members had failed to perform their tasks efficiently and professionally because they lacked the competencies, capabilities and preparations to fulfill the responsibility related to it.

The international community has recently shown its solidarity by countering the European Community’s dominance of Human Rights Council resolutions for many years. He said that this hegemony contributed to the exacerbation of relations between many members of the Council and made them lose confidence in the Council’s mechanisms and powers to protect and promote human rights in the world.

The Council’s decision represents a victory for the lofty human will, which is primarily concerned with the human rights of the United Nations. It will contribute to the promotion and protection of human rights in Yemen, enhance security and peace and strengthen accountability for violations of international human rights laws.”

Al-Arabi added that cooperation and coordination between all parties to the conflict and the Yemeni government, with the support of the international community, will ensure an end to the conflict in Yemen and ensure that everyone enjoys their rights in a safe and stable environment.
