Manama, May 30 (BNA): His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, today inaugurated the Second Independent Water and Power Project (IWPP).
His Highness highlighted the Kingdom’s commitment to developing energy production projects in partnership with the private sector and in line with the comprehensive development of the Kingdom under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
His Highness pointed out the importance of development projects that provide high-quality services to Bahraini citizens and establish a global infrastructure for electricity and water.
His Highness affirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to enhancing energy efficiency and increasing the production capacity of electricity and water in conjunction with programs and priorities that promote development.
His Royal Highness highlighted the Kingdom’s keenness to ensure that development infrastructure projects comply with the latest international standards that support efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change.
His Highness stressed the Kingdom’s commitment to adopting innovative, high-quality programs that meet efficiency standards and contribute to achieving the Kingdom’s wide-ranging development goals and future aspirations to save energy.
Then, His Highness toured the facility and was briefed on the progress of the works of the second floor project, the second phase, as an extension of the first floor stage, which was inaugurated by His Majesty the King.
His Highness praised the important role played by the Electricity and Water Authority and the efforts made to support the electricity and water sector and ensure its sustainability to meet the growing demand and achieve its long-term aspirations.
His Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister praised the efforts of those in charge of managing the project, wishing them continued success in achieving their goals.
For his part, HE Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, Chairman of the Electricity and Water Authority, affirmed that the Authority and its workforce are committed to achieving the comprehensive development goals set by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and with the support of His Royal Highness.
His Excellency Kamal bin Ahmed also affirmed the Electricity and Water Authority’s commitment to its partnership with the private sector to ensure the continuation of energy programs and plans that contribute to energy sustainability.
His Excellency Kamal bin Ahmed pointed out the importance of meeting the increasing demand for electricity and water consumption in view of the industrial, commercial and urban expansion of the Kingdom. His Excellency Kamal bin Ahmed renewed the Electricity and Water Authority’s commitment to providing improved services to citizens, residents and investors to achieve the Kingdom’s comprehensive development goals in light of Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.
For his part, the Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, His Excellency Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan, affirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to achieving development plans and projects across sectors, in line with the comprehensive development that the Kingdom is witnessing under the leadership of His Majesty the King and with the support of His Highness the Crown Prince. and prime minister.
His Excellency Yasser bin Ibrahim praised the achievements of the Electricity and Water Authority, and pointed out the importance of the Floor 2 project, the second phase, to increase the production of electricity and water in the Kingdom.
His Excellency Yasser bin Ibrahim stressed that the project meets the highest international quality standards and will help reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change to achieve sustainable development.
For his part, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ACWA Power, Muhammad Abu Nayan, emphasized the efficiency of building the project, which was completed on schedule and in a sustainable manner. The Chairman of the Board of Directors also expressed his pride that the completion of the project strengthens Bahraini-Saudi relations.
The Independent Water and Power Project (IWPP) is the first production station in the Kingdom connected to the high-voltage electricity transmission network with a capacity of 400 kV. The cost of the station amounted to more than one billion US dollars and was established in partnership with companies from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Japan.
The Independent Power Plant (IWPP) generates 1,500 megawatts of electricity and processes 50 million gallons of desalinated water per day. This increases the Kingdom’s total production capacity to 5,044 megawatts of electricity and 204 million gallons of desalinated water per day.
