HRH Crown Prince and Prime Minister speech at COP26 praised by Oil Minister

Manama, November 5 (BNA) Oil Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa praised the keynote speech delivered by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister at the 26th session of the United Nations on climate change. The Conference of the Parties (COP26) held in Glasgow, United Kingdom, indicating that the speech affirmed the Kingdom’s vision of the need to intensify international cooperation to confront the repercussions of climate change, as it is among the challenges facing the world at the present time. His Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister’s announcement of the Kingdom’s commitment to reach net zero by 2060 and reduce emissions by 30 percent by 2035 through decarbonization and efficiency initiatives and doubling the deployment of renewable energy, a message to the world confirming how keen Bahrain is. The minister said that fulfilling his environmental commitments at the international level.

The minister indicated that under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Ministry of Oil has implemented a wide range of environmental projects and initiatives aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and the negative effects of climate change, in cooperation with many local authorities. And international agencies, including the Green Climate Fund, which held its 21st board meeting in Bahrain, is the first oil country to host such an event.

The minister pointed out that during that meeting held in 2018, the Board of Directors of the Green Climate Fund approved and approved the financing of environmental projects in Bahrain, noting that among these projects is a project of the Ministry of Oil with the Green Climate Fund, “enhancing the climate resilience of the water sector in Bahrain.” . Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa stressed that the Kingdom was a pioneer in implementing many environmentally friendly projects, the most important of which are the production of unleaded gasoline, the Merox kerosene project, the gas desulfurization refinery project, the liquefied petroleum gas processing project, and the liquefied petroleum gas processing project. Lubricant oil project, sewage treatment unit project and carbon dioxide extraction project.

Other environmentally friendly projects include the establishment of a fish farm, bird sanctuary, Bahraini tree garden, Her Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa’s garden for aromatic plants in GPIC, the Bahrain-Japan Friendship Garden, and the opening of a development. He pointed out that the solar-petroleum power station, in addition to setting up incentive programs for Bahraini schools for innovation and excellence in the environmental field, noting that all these projects and programs aim to enable the Kingdom to reach the net-zero target by 2060.

The Minister of Oil also confirmed the participation of His Highness the Crown Prince and the Prime Minister in the summit of the Green Middle East Initiative, which was recently inaugurated by the Saudi Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
