Housing Minister meets UN-Habitat Executive Director

Manama, Feb. 22 (BNA): The Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, Amna bint Ahmed Al-Rumaihi, said that the Kingdom of Bahrain gives top priority to implementing the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals in its development plans and programmes.

She added that this policy is highlighted by the indications of the voluntary reports submitted by the Kingdom in this regard to the United Nations, which reflect Bahrain’s steps.

The minister’s remarks came during her meeting with the Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat), Maymoona Mohammed Sharif, on the occasion of her visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain. During the meeting, the UN official was briefed on the housing policy in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The minister highlighted the close cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and various United Nations agencies, especially the Human Settlements Programme.

She stressed the importance of this cooperation, which resulted in the launch of the State of Arab Cities 2022 report under the title “Sustainable Financing for Urban Infrastructure” from the Kingdom of Bahrain in coordination with the Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies.

The Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat), Maymoona Mohammed Sharif, praised Bahrain’s commitment to implementing the sustainable development goals for the year 2023, which are reflected in the periodic voluntary reports and indicators that reflect the Kingdom’s steps. She expressed her happiness at visiting the city of Salman.
