Hong Kong, Sept 20 (Una): Hong Kong leader John Lee said Tuesday that the government aims to soon announce the controversial COVID-19 hotel quarantine policy for all arrivals, as it wants to keep the city connected to the rest. to the world and allow for “orderly openness”.
Lee said he understands that Hong Kong needs to remain competitive, adding that authorities are keen to bring events and activities back to the city.
“We know exactly where we have to go and we want to be consistent as we move in that direction. We would like to have an orderly opening…because we don’t want to have chaos or confusion in the process,” he told reporters.
Reuters reported that the changes may be announced this week.
Hong Kong takes its cues from China’s COVID-free policy, and is one of the few places in the world that still requires overseas travelers to self-quarantine upon arrival even though the duration of the quarantine has eased over time. Currently, entrants must pay for three days in a hotel and follow that with four days of self-monitoring.
