Manama, January 24 (BNA) His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa received today at the Sofia Palace the President of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives Abdullah Shahid.
His Majesty the King welcomed him and his accompanying delegation, congratulating him on assuming the presidency of the current session of the United Nations General Assembly.
He wished him every success in serving causes related to the promotion of world peace and stability.
His Majesty reviewed the cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Nations in various development fields, stressing the Kingdom of Bahrain’s keenness to enhance cooperation and build sound partnerships with the international organization and its agencies.
He also expressed the Kingdom’s keenness to strengthen friendly relations with the Republic of Maldives.
His Majesty the King commended the development steps and achievements made by Bahrain, stressing the remarkable contribution of Bahraini women to the development process and political life in the Kingdom and their assumption of high positions at the local, regional and international levels.
His Majesty stressed the cultural and historical role of the Kingdom of Bahrain and its pioneering initiatives to promote dialogue, cooperation between cultures and peaceful coexistence.
He referred to the Kingdom’s humanitarian efforts in providing relief aid to the needy, praising the tolerance and peaceful coexistence that characterize Bahraini society.
His Majesty the King discussed with the President of the United Nations General Assembly regional and international developments of common interest.
He affirmed Bahrain’s support for the pivotal role of the United Nations in promoting peace, security and stability around the world.
The President of the United Nations General Assembly expressed his happiness at visiting the Kingdom of Bahrain, expressing his thanks and gratitude to His Majesty the King for the warm welcome and generous hospitality.
He praised the comprehensive development in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Kingdom’s efforts to achieve the goals of the United Nations.
