HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad to patronise Asian Wrestling Championship

Manama, June 30 (BNA) Bahrain is preparing to host the first edition of the Asian Wrestling Championship for U-15 and U-20, which will open on Saturday and conclude on July 10.

The continental competition will be held at the Khalifa Sports City Stadium under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the Public Sports Authority and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee.

The Bahrain Wrestling Association organizes the competition in cooperation with the Bahrain Martial Arts Council and the Asian Wrestling Federation under the supervision of the International Wrestling Federation.


A total of 675 wrestlers representing 17 countries will participate in the tournament – Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iraq, Syria, India, Iran, China, Japan, Kazakhstan and Korea.


Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Taiwan and Uzbekistan will also participate in the competition, which will be run by 49 referees accredited by the International Wrestling Federation.

The Kingdom of Bahrain has begun to welcome the delegations that will participate in the Asian Wrestling Championship for the U-15 and U-20 categories.

His Highness Sheikh Khalid stressed the importance of hosting the tournament, praising His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for his support for all sports.
