Heritage Festival 2023 concludes

Manama, April 9 (BNA): The curtain fell on the 29thy The annual Heritage Festival session, organized by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa at Souk Al Baraha in Diyar Al Muharraq between April 5 and 8.


The four-night festival, titled “Ramadan Traditions,” celebrated several activities that highlighted different aspects of Bahrain’s cultural heritage during the holy month of Ramadan.


The authority indicated that this year’s Heritage Festival, which concluded on Saturday, provided visitors with the opportunity to learn about the authentic traditions formed by the local community and related to the holy month, through a variety of recreational activities.


The authority thanked all the sponsors of the festival, including the Baraha market, which hosted the event and provided all facilities to ensure the success of its organization.


The festival shed light on the customs of Ramadan in Bahrain, such as the Qarqawn, family gatherings, Al-Misharati (Ramadan drummer), folk games, the breakfast cannon, the Ramadan sofra (table or cloth for serving food) and popular food.


The program included musical performances by famous folklore bands, face painting, traditional games, hazawi (folk tales) and tasting experiences of many Ramadan delicacies, in addition to a market for traditional Bahraini products.


The annual festival aims to emphasize the authenticity of these Ramadan customs and their connection to the identity, culture and heritage of the Kingdom. Bahrainis are keen to uphold these traditions and pass them on from generation to generation, despite the changes that have taken place in the contemporary way of life.

Since its inception in 1992, under the patronage of His Majesty the King, the Heritage Festival has provided an opportunity to shed light on elements of Bahrain’s tangible and intangible heritage. A national platform through which Bahraini traditions are presented to highlight the value of the national heritage and raise awareness of its importance and the need to preserve and preserve it for future generations.
