HEC Secretary-General praises RCSI solar project

Manama, June 28 (BNA) The Secretary-General of the Higher Education Council and Vice-Chairman of its Board of Trustees, Dr. Sheikha Rana bint Isa bin Daij Al Khalifa, attended the inauguration of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Solar farm project at the Medical University of Bahrain.


The Secretary-General stressed the importance of renewable energy in achieving Bahrain’s Vision 2030.

She commended this step, which will encourage other higher education institutions to adopt environmentally conscious practices that contribute to achieving the United Nations sustainable development goals in Bahrain.


“The university is committed to environmental sustainability, improving public health and supporting the Sustainable Development Goals through a clean and affordable energy project,” said Stephen Harrison Muirfield, Chief Operating Officer of the Imperial College of Russian Universities.


“The solar farm will produce the equivalent of 55% of the university’s current energy consumption and the project is expected to be completed by January 2023.”


The project aims to install 4,854 solar panels in the parking lots of the campus building, covering an area of ​​12,000 square meters and providing 880 shaded parking spaces.


The solar farm will produce an annual capacity of 3.54 megawatt-hours which will save 2,247 metric tons of CO2 per year.
