Heavy snow advisory issued for Seoul, surrounding areas

Seoul, Jan. 26 (BNA): A heavy snowfall warning was issued Thursday for the greater Seoul area and some central parts of the country, the state meteorological agency said.

The Korea Meteorological Agency (KMA) said the warning went into effect in Seoul, Incheon, parts of Gyeonggi Province surrounding Seoul, and the coastal area of ​​South Chungcheong Province.

The warning is given when snowfall of 5 centimeters or more is expected within 24 hours.

Kuwait News Agency (KMA) said the snowfall was heaviest overnight and into early Thursday, affecting morning commutes.

KMA advised citizens to use public transportation and leave for work earlier than usual to avoid traffic congestion.

Snow was expected to stop Thursday afternoon starting in the broader Seoul region but will continue into early Friday in the central parts of the country.

Kuwait News Agency (KMA) said that snow between 2 and 7 cm is expected until Friday and more than 10 cm in the mountainous areas of the southern island of Jeju.

Snow is expected in the eastern parts of Gyeonggi Province and inland areas of Gangwon Province, the agency said.

The agency said temperatures are expected to rise in most parts of the country to between minus 2 degrees Celsius and 6 degrees Celsius.
