‘Happy birthday’: Eiffel Tower pays tribute to UNESCO

Paris, November 12 (BNA) Paris praised UNESCO with a light show of the Eiffel Tower on Friday to celebrate the 75th birthday of the United Nations Cultural and Scientific Agency.

In a sign of the French capital’s friendship toward the organization that has hosted it since 1946, the tower displayed the words “75 years” alongside the UNESCO logo, a stylized Greek temple, and “a symbol of hope for a peaceful world,” according to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, according to Reuters. .

The light show was part of a wider celebration that included the visits of more than 20 heads of state and the presentation of the work of Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado at the authority’s headquarters.

Founded in the ashes of World War II to protect humanity’s common cultural heritage, the agency is known for designing and protecting archaeological and heritage sites, from the Galapagos Islands to the cemeteries of Timbuktu.

Audrey Azoulay, a former French culture minister, was elected to a second four-year term as its Director-General earlier this week.
