Berlin, May 21 (BNA): Sebastien Haller led Borussia Dortmund to the top of the Bundesliga with one round remaining, scoring twice in a 3-0 win at 10-man Augsburg on Sunday.
The Ivory Coast striker made a breakthrough against the home team’s defense in the 59th minute and sealed the victory in the 84th minute. Julien Brandt secured Dortmund’s third place in stoppage time.
And lifted Dortmund by two points from Bayern Munich, the 10-time champion, in the final round. Bayern’s defeat the previous day against RB Leipzig handed the initiative to Dortmund, reports the Associated Press.
“Now we have to sleep six times and wake up once,” said Dortmund coach Edin Terzic, whose team hosts Mainz in its last match on Saturday. He visits Bayern Munich in his last match at the same time.
Dortmund, who star Judd Bellingham missed with a knee injury, were under pressure from the start and caused several bookings in Augsburg’s packed defence.
