Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix confirmed as season-opening round of 2022 F1 Season

Manama, October 15 (BNA) Formula 1 announced today that the 2022 Formula 1 World Championship will start at the Bahrain International Circuit.

The 2022 Gulf Air Formula 1 Championship in Bahrain will take place from 18 to 20 matches, and will be the first of 23 rounds of the new season.

Bahrain International Center CEO Sheikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa commented: “The 2022 F1 season will mark a new era for the sport, as the new regulations will dramatically change key elements of motoring. Giving us the opportunity to host the first race of this historic season is a great honor for us. We thank Formula 1 and the FIA to commission us to host the first race again.”

The announcement comes after the recent meeting of the FIA’s World Motorsport Council in Paris, which approved the new calendar.

This will be the fourth time that the Formula 1 season begins in Bahrain. The Championship Opening Ceremony was previously held in the “Home of Motorsports in the Middle East” in 2006, 2010 and 2021.

The Bahrain Grand Prix will be the front end of the Formula 1 Middle East double-header race to start the new season, which will be followed next weekend by the second edition of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Jeddah.

Next year’s Bahrain Grand Prix will witness the 18th edition of the 57-lap race, and the ninth time to be held at night under the most modern floodlights at the Bahrain International Centre.

More announcements for the 2022 Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix Gulf Air will be announced in due course, including details on ticket sales.
