Goldman Sachs launches green finance group with Beijing think tank

Beijing, Dec. 4 (BNA): Goldman Sachs Group (GS.N) and the International Financial Forum (IFF), a Beijing-based think tank, launched a working group on green finance on Saturday.

The working group will facilitate dialogue on climate action between senior executives from global companies and researchers from leading institutions, according to a joint statement sent to Reuters.

They said the group will advise and work with policy makers to enhance cooperation in green finance in the public and private sectors.

John Waldron, Goldman’s President and Chief Operating Officer, and Zhou Xian, Vice President and FIFA Secretary General, chair the group.

China’s goal of reducing net carbon emissions by 2060 could generate $16 trillion in infrastructure investment opportunities and 40 million net new jobs for the country, according to Goldman research, Reuters reports.

“We need to move from the science of climate change to the field of climate change, to disseminate these technologies widely and make it easier to find and choose greener energy sources to power their daily lives,” Waldron said.

“Many of the companies joining us in the working group are important investors and users of energy around the world. We need them to be active participants and supporters of the climate transition in the future,” he added.
