California, Jan. 9 (BUS): The Golden Globes will be a special event this year without a live broadcast, organizers said, as they prepare to hold a reductive gala Sunday without a celebrity red carpet following last year’s controversy.
Nominations for “The Power of the Dog” and “Belfast” will be announced with seven nods each, and the winners will be announced online.
Last year, NBC dropped plans to televise the event after criticism from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which votes on the annual Film and Television Awards – one of the biggest awards ahead of the Oscars, according to Reuters.
The HFPA has been criticized for the lack of racial diversity among its members, and critics have also raised questions about whether close relationships with film studios influenced the choices of nominees and winners.

“This year’s event will be a special event and will not be broadcast live,” the organizers said on the official Golden Globes Twitter page late Thursday.
“We will provide real-time updates on the winners on the Golden Globes website and our social media.”
Earlier this week, the Hollywood Association of Foreign Journalists said there would be no audience or red carpet events at the event, which “will also highlight (the group’s) long-established philanthropy.”
It also banned gifts and benefits and implemented diversity training and sexual harassment for members. The group, which numbers just over 100, plans to expand further this year.
Rapper and actor Snoop Dogg announced last month their nominations for the 79th Golden Globe Awards.
The nominees include Lady Gaga (“House of Gucci”), Nicole Kidman (“Being the Ricardos”), Will Smith (“King Richard”), Kristen Stewart (“Spencer”), and Denzel Washington (“The Tragedy of Macbeth”).
On television, the drama “Caliphate” topped five nominations.
