Goal ‘scored’ by deceased player in coffin delights fans

Santiago Jan. 8 (BUS): The world is celebrating a dead Chilean footballer after his former teammates arranged for him to score a goal from his coffin as a tribute to his remarkable prowess.

Jaime Iskandar passed away in the closing days of 2021, but his friends at Chile’s Aparicion de Payne wanted to celebrate the life of the striker.

They put his coffin in a six-yard box and his teammate kicked the ball onto the coffin until it bounced back into the goal. Dozens of spectators cheered excitedly when the ball hit the net, according to Reuters.

Some set off fireworks as friends in the green Aparicion shirt knelt and hugged the coffin covered in team colors.

Although little was known about the man, the video, filmed on January 3 in Huelquen, on the outskirts of Santiago, quickly went viral with locations across Latin America highlighting the passion and dedication shown by fans.

We got it together,” said Philip Orellana, who filmed the happy scene.

“What he leaves us with is that loneliness… We didn’t think (the video) would be shared all over the world because he was just a regular guy.

“A completely different goal, which was celebrated with pity and tears,” Iskandar club said in a Facebook post, adding that the striker “celebrated from heaven with all his soul.”

“Your legacy will never be forgotten.”
