Germany obtains 5 million more Pfizer jabs to spur booster campaign

Berlin Jan. 12 (BNA): Germany has bought another 5 million doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus vaccine to speed up the country’s booster programme, the Health Ministry said late Tuesday.

The German news agency (dpa) reported that the stabs, which will be available from the week of January 24, were purchased from Romania, which received it through the European Union’s vaccine purchase scheme but was not used.

Overall, Germany expects to provide around 32 million doses of vaccine in the three weeks starting on January 17. This includes 12 million doses of Pfizer/BioNTech and 20 million doses of Moderna.

This will make a booster injection possible for anyone who wants it in the next three weeks, the department said.
