German carmaker Daimler officially changes its name to Mercedes-Benz

Stuttgart, Feb. 1 (BUS): German carmaker Daimler will formally say goodbye to its company name on Tuesday, and from now on it will be known as Mercedes-Benz Group.

The German news agency (dpa) reported that the chairman of the board of directors, Ola Källenius, is thus ending a large-scale restructuring of the company that began at the end of last year with the offer of the truck business from Daimler Truck.

Since then, there have been two separate companies, both listed on the stock exchange. Mercedes-Benz is now focused on the car and truck business.

Kallenius said last week that the traditional star-studded brand should be used as a company name to make the manufacturer more attractive.

“We see that interest in Mercedes has increased in the last 12 to 18 months,” the CEO said.

Its stated goal is to establish the Mercedes-Benz brand as a luxury brand.

The name change will be entered in the commercial registry on Tuesday.

Last year, US consulting firm Interbrand estimated the value of the Mercedes-Benz brand at less than $51 billion. Only the Japanese company Toyota did better among the global automakers. American companies Apple and Amazon topped the ranking.
