“It’s a crazy feeling,” Gauff said in an on-court interview after winning a match with Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia on Tuesday.
“I mean, Ash Stadium cheers my name, I was trying not to smile on the bench at the last change, I was trying to stay in the moment. But in my head I was smiling.
“I can’t believe you guys are saying this. It’s crazy.”
In a battle between the youngest player left in the draw, 18-year-old Gauff, and the oldest, 33-year-old Zhang, it was the Chinese player who looked the most intense at first, breaking 2-0. Performs in the first group.
