G7 ministers want to send joint signal for freedom and democracy

Liverpool, December 12 (BNA): The Group of Seven leading industrialized countries for foreign ministers of the world’s industrial economies want to send a common signal of freedom and democracy at the conclusion of their meeting in Liverpool on Sunday.

British host Liz Truss said before the meeting that the G7, which includes Britain, Germany, France, the United States, Italy, Canada and Japan, should “take a stand as a united front against aggressors who seek to undermine freedom”. Deutsche News Agency (DPA) reported.

Against the background of the Ukrainian crisis, dealing with Russia is one of the main topics of the meeting. More independence from China and concerns about Iran’s nuclear program are also on the agenda.

Most of the guests were unable to attend the meeting in person due to the spread of the new and more contagious ‘Omicron’ virus.

The summit in Liverpool, in northwest England, is the last meeting of the Group of Seven under the British presidency. From 2022, Germany will take over this role.

Germany’s new foreign minister, Annallina Barbock, has said she wants to make the fight against the climate crisis one of the central themes of the German presidency.
