Four soldiers killed in firing at Indian military base


New Delhi, April 12 (BNA): Four soldiers were killed in a shooting at a military base in the Indian border state of Punjab early Wednesday, and the search is underway for the perpetrators of the shooting.


A defense source told Reuters, on condition of anonymity, indicating the sensitivity of the matter, that an unknown number of shooters were at large at the base in the city of Bathinda.


An army statement said that four soldiers succumbed to wounds they sustained during the shooting incident that occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning.


The statement did not give the circumstances or other details about who was responsible for the accident.


The army statement stated that the base has been closed and a joint investigation is underway with the local police, adding that there were no reports of injuries or property damage.
