Foreign Minister: We respect international legitimacy decisions without prejudice to our inalienable historical rights

Manama, November 9 (BNA) Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani said that the Kingdom of Bahrain respects the legitimate decisions and the ruling of the International Court of Justice without prejudice to the historical and legal rights of the Kingdom based on the principle of current possession in accordance with Legislative Decree No. 8 of 1993 regarding the territorial sea and the area adjacent to Bahrain.

In response to a question from Member of Parliament Mohamed Al-Sisi Al-Buainain about the information published by the French magazine “Le Point” by Ian Hampel on November 3, 2021 regarding the ruling issued by the International Court of Justice, he said: Al-Zayani said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is following the declared legal arguments and evidence in line with the principles of law International and subject to careful research and study.

He added that Bahrain stresses the importance of resolving border disputes between the Gulf Cooperation Council countries by peaceful means.

Al-Zayani said that the Kingdom announced on several occasions its readiness to start bilateral talks with the State of Qatar based on the statement of the Al-Ula Summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council to address all outstanding issues and issues.
