The minister expressed his pride in the Kingdom’s participation in the celebration of the International Day for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, which falls on July 30 each year.
The participation of the Kingdom of Bahrain comes in response to United Nations General Assembly Resolution No. 68/192 of December 18, 2013, which indicates that the occasion also coincides with the Kingdom’s classification in the first category in the US State Department’s report on human trafficking for the fifth time. straight year.
Al-Zayani indicated that Bahrain maintains its prestigious international reputation in the field of human rights in addressing human trafficking issues, reducing exploitation in the work environment, and combating forced labor, as recognized by the International Organization for Migration, and categorizing it as the best destination for living. And work for expatriates in the region through many international reports, given its advanced legislative and judicial system based on Law 1/2008 on combating human trafficking, and its compatibility with international human rights charters and conventions concerned with the protection of human rights. He extended his thanks and appreciation to the Minister of Interior, Major General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, for his support and guidance to the Department of Combating Human Trafficking and the Protection of Public Morals at the General Department of Investigation and Criminal Evidence at the Ministry.
Minister Al-Zayani praised the constructive cooperation between the Ministry of Interior and the competent government agencies and human rights in the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking in a professional, effective and responsible manner, and the permanent coordination between them with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Minister referred to the cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and the Interior in terms of coordination with embassies and consulates to support mechanisms for monitoring and tracking violations, receiving reports and complaints, arresting suspects and submitting them to the Public Prosecution to achieve criminal justice. Their interest in transferring all victims to the National Committee’s shelter center, taking care of their physical and mental health when necessary, and continuing media and community awareness to protect society from all forms of these crimes.
He indicated the Kingdom’s interest in building partnerships locally, regionally and internationally in combating human trafficking, through continuous cooperation and coordination between members of the Higher Coordination Committee for Human Rights and specialized human rights committees such as the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking. Persons and the judiciary represented by the Public Prosecution and the Special Tribunal for these cases, highlighting the exchange of experiences with the International Organization for Migration, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and other relevant United Nations organizations.
Dr. Al-Zayani stressed that Bahrain, in its celebration of this International Day, expresses its determination to continue its leadership in the field of human rights and civilizational achievements, explaining that Bahrain’s interest in combating human trafficking is at the forefront of its economic, social and cultural priorities.
