Finance Minister: Diversity is a characteristic feature of Bahrain’s society, economy

Manama, November 4 (BNA) Minister of Finance and National Economy Sheikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa affirmed Bahrain’s continuous approach to promoting, coexistence, tolerance and openness, which reflects the visions and aspirations of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa. Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

The minister affirmed Bahrain’s position as an advanced civilized model that is unique with a historical heritage based on coexistence, pluralism and respect for religions. He stressed the Kingdom’s keenness to promote rapprochement between peoples and cultures and to promote peace. He said that diversity is a hallmark of Bahraini society and economy.

This came during a speech by the Minister of Finance and National Economy during a media briefing in which Minister of Sustainable Development Nour bint Ali Al-Khalif participated. This came on the sidelines of the historic visit of His Holiness Pope Francis to the Kingdom of Bahrain at the invitation of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

The two ministers expressed their appreciation for the visit, describing it as evidence that Bahrain is a host country and welcomes diverse religions and sects.

The Minister of Finance and National Economy stressed the Kingdom’s continuous approach to investing in developing skills and expertise to achieve goals and aspirations, develop the national economy and create promising job opportunities for citizens. He pointed to the Kingdom’s continuous development achievements within the economic recovery plan based on five priorities to be implemented in partnership with the private sector.

The Minister of Sustainable Development emphasized Bahrain’s continuous approach to promoting the values ​​of tolerance and cultural pluralism, which turned it into a civilized model at all levels. She pointed to the Kingdom’s efforts to empower Bahraini women as a key partner in the development process. She praised the pioneering role of the Supreme Council for Women in this regard, headed by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, consort of His Majesty the King.

The minister referred to development projects in the Kingdom of Bahrain that seek to preserve the environment and ensure the sustainability of its resources. She explained the Kingdom’s efforts in this regard and the measures taken to reduce carbon emissions and increase green space through an afforestation scheme. She said that this comes in implementation of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitments to reach zero neutrality by 2060 in order to meet the challenges of climate change and protect the environment.

The minister indicated the Kingdom of Bahrain’s keenness to continue efforts to achieve the development goals of energy sustainability through renewable energy projects, which confirms the commitment to international efforts to confront climate change.
