Finance and National Economy Minister chairs GCC meetings

Manama, November 7 (BNA) The Minister of Finance and National Economy Sheikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa chaired today the 114th meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council Financial and Economic Cooperation Committee.

He also chaired the joint meeting with the trade ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, which was held in Bahrain today, in the presence of senior officials from the member states and the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

The Minister conveyed the greetings of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister to all participants.

He also welcomed the ministers and the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Dr. Nayef bin Falah Al-Hajraf, and thanked them for attending the meeting in person for the first time since the outbreak of the new Corona virus (Covid-19).

He said that the meeting comes on the basis of the achievements and successes, praising the strong historical relations that bind the Gulf Cooperation Council countries in all sectors, especially financial and economic.

He stressed the importance of continuing joint efforts to promote joint action and lead development and progress, adding that the current circumstances require a clear action plan to achieve economic recovery.

The delegation discussed economic relations between the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council, highlighting the recommendations of the Central Bank Governors Committee and the working group tasked with studying the initiatives of the Group of Twenty and the role of the customs union in promoting inter-trade exchanges.

Then the members of the Financial and Economic Cooperation Committee of the Gulf Cooperation Council opened the electronic window (Takamul) with the aim of responding to inquiries, observations and proposals related to the Gulf common market.

His Highness Sheikh Salman bin Khalifa also chaired the joint meeting between the Financial and Economic Committee and the Commercial Cooperation Committee, in the presence of the head of the negotiation team, Abdul Rahman Al-Harbi.

He congratulated Al-Harbi on his appointment as general coordinator of the Gulf Cooperation Council team responsible for free trade negotiations. He also thanked the former coordinator, Dr. Hamad Al-Bazaa, for his efforts.
