Fernandes misses late penalty as United loses 1-0 to Villa

London, September 25 (BNA): Bruno Fernandes missed a penalty in stoppage time as his colleague Cristiano Ronaldo appeared in Manchester United’s 1-0 loss at home to Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday.

Villa defender Courtney Howes was a hero for the visitors after he headed home from a corner kick in the 88th minute to give his team their first victory over United since 2009.

But then Hause was whistled for a handball for a thrilling penalty as United tried to save a point at Old Trafford, according to the Associated Press.

Fernandes, who has converted a penalty in three consecutive Premier League games against Villa, straightened the ball while Ronaldo was standing nearby and then shot it high over the bar.

United collected 28 shots but only four were on target as they failed to score in a home game in the Premier League for the first time in 16 matches.

It was United’s first loss in the Premier League and their second overall after the League Cup defeat in midweek.

United defenders Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw were out injured during the match as the team looks forward to a Champions League match at home on Wednesday against Villarreal.
