Female refereeing team takes charge of Jordan men’s game for first time

Amman, November 4 (BNA) A female referee team took charge of the men’s football match in the Jordanian Professional League for the first time on Tuesday as part of the state’s efforts to promote the game among women.

Referee Israa Al-Mubadin and assistant referees Islam Al-Abadi, Sabreen Al-Abadi and Hanin Murad took Sahab 4-1 victory over the spot in the last round of the competition.

“Initially, the players were smiling in the tunnel when we first entered because a girl was in charge and they were surprised by the idea,” Mobaideen said.

“But once the game started, there were no jokes and everyone got serious.”

The Jordan Football Association wants more women to participate in the sport and Al Mubaidin said she is keen to make a difference.

“To have an impact on society is my ambition,” she added.

“It is important to have a positive impact on the society in which I live. Participation in the professional league will give a good image of women’s refereeing.

“I can send a message that women can work in any field.”
