England’s Bairstow ruled out of T20 World Cup through injury, Roy dropped

London, September 2 (BUS): English batsman Jonny Bristow has been ruled out of the 20th World Cup due to injury, while unfit opener Jason Roy has been left out of the tournament squad in Australia early next month.
Bairstow was initially included in the selection, but the England and Wales Cricket Board later said he was ruled out for the rest of the summer and the T20 World Cup after sustaining a lower limb injury in a freak accident while playing golf in Leeds on Friday.

Bairstow said in an Instagram post that he was injured after slipping on the golf course and that he would need to have surgery, Reuters reported.

Roy was an integral part of England’s whiteball team, and his explosive strike at the top of the standings exemplified the team’s aggressive approach as they won their first 50 World Cup title in 2019.

The 32-year-old struggled to run this summer and a total of 76 points in his last six caps in the Twenties made his position unacceptable in the World Cup and the previous seven game of the Twenty20 Series in Pakistan.

Chris Woks and Mark Wood, who last played for England during the West Indies Test Tour in March, have both recovered from their injuries to be on both teams.

The European Central Bank said on Friday that the England squad includes Chris Jordan (finger) and William Livingstone (ankle) who will skip the Pakistan Tour to continue their rehabilitation.

Captain Joss Butler, who is recovering from a calf injury, will be touring Pakistan but will only be available to play in the later stages of the series.

“In Butler’s absence, Moein Ali will lead the team,” the European Central Bank said.

Jordan Cox, Tom Helm, Will Jack, Ole Stone and Luke Wood are five unrelated players who have been named to the England squad for the Pakistan series that begins on September 20 in Karachi.

The former England champion kicks off her FIFA 20 World Cup campaign against Afghanistan on October 22 in Perth.
