Boston, Dec. 21 (BUS): Joel Embiid scored 17 of his 41 points in the fourth quarter, as three players hit the final minutes and three free throws in the last four seconds to make the ice as the Philadelphia 76ers won the Boston Celtics 108. – 103 Monday night.
With both teams grappling with the COVID-19 outbreak, Embiid also had 10 rebounds and an inside pass steal for the Celtics’ last chance playing 40 minutes and 14 seconds — a season higher for a game that didn’t go into overtime, the AP reports.
Seth Curry scored 26 points and Tobias Harris scored 25 for Philadelphia.
Jaylene Brown scored 30 points, Jason Tatum 17 and Enes Kanter Freedom scored 15 points and 11 rebounds for a Celtics who had seven players on COVID-19 protocol with Robert Williams third late for personal reasons.
After trailing the entire first half, the Celtics led 80-75 in the fourth quarter and were 97-90 ahead on the Browns 3 Index with 4:14 to the left. Matisse Thybulle hit a triple pointer and then Embiid made a pair of misses.
Boston led 98-96 when Danny Green made 3-pointers, then Embiid made three mid-range jumpers to keep the Celtics away.

The game was postponed for seven minutes after the national anthem and before the Celtics players were introduced when a fire alarm went off in the building accompanied by an announcement telling the crowd they might need to evacuate. After a few minutes of people nervously looking around, the Celtics spell started waving his arms to pump the crowd; Pre-match celebrations resumed soon after.
A TD Garden spokesperson said the problem lay with a malfunctioning sprinkler head in a concession area at balcony level and set off a fire alarm. Construction was coordinated with the Boston Fire Department before the permit was given.

The Celtics’ pre-game injury list required a series of three tweets to include everyone, with Al Horford, Jabari Parker, Josh Richardson, Broderick Thomas, Grant Williams, Juancho Hernangomez and Sam Hauser in the COVID-19 protocol. Robert Williams III was also included in the name list for personal reasons.
Tatum (ankle), Romeo Langford (neck) and Dennis Schroeder (non-COVID illness) were in doubt but were allowed to play. To fill the roster, the Celtics signed 15-year NBA veteran CJ Miles, who has not appeared in a game in more than two years, on a 10-day contract.
The Sixers were without Andre Drummond, Chic Melton, and George Niang due to COVID protocols, along with Therese Maxi (a groin contusion), Furkan Korkmaz (non-COVID illness), Jaden Springer (concussion protocol) and Ben Simmons, who didn’t play all year in the Waiting for a potential deal.
