Electricity and Water Affairs Ministry signs agreement to install five EV charging stations

Manama, Apr. 16 (BNA): Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan, stressed the importance of strengthening effective partnership between the public and private sectors and integrating efforts that would develop the various services that are provided to citizens. Contribute to the diversification of economic tributaries and achieve qualitative achievements in various vital sectors, especially energy services.


This came during the minister’s signing during the signing of an agreement between the Ministry of Electricity and Water Affairs and ABB, the leading technology company in electrification and automation, to supply five charging stations with a capacity of 360 kilowatts to charge electric vehicles. High speed and efficiency, according to leading international standards in this field, to be installed in several strategic locations throughout the Kingdom.


This step comes within the steps taken by the Ministry to provide the infrastructure for electric vehicles, which is of great importance in encouraging and raising the level of awareness among citizens and residents about adopting and including electric vehicles within a sustainable lifestyle in line with the global transformation. Towards sustainable and low carbon mobility solutions.


Humaidan indicated that the project will contribute to strengthening the path towards achieving the national goals announced by the Kingdom at the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2021 to reach zero neutrality by 2060 and reduce carbon emissions by 30% by 2035.


He added that the Ministry of Electricity and Water Affairs, in cooperation with the competent authorities in the public and private sectors, is about to start preparing an integrated strategy to support sustainable mobility solutions in the Kingdom, especially electric vehicles, indicating that one of the most important objectives of the strategy is to develop policies, regulations and infrastructure necessary for charging electric vehicles.
