Djokovic to skip 2022 ATP Cup in Sydney – report

Belgrade, Dec. 26 (BNA) World number one Novak Djokovic will not travel to Sydney to participate in the men’s season-opening ATP Cup next week, Serbian daily Blick reported.

Djokovic has been named to Serbia’s ATP Cup squad, although the 34-year-old has yet to commit to the Australian Open after mandating organizers to vaccinate with COVID-19.

Djokovic refused to reveal whether he had been vaccinated, citing privacy, according to Reuters reports.

Serbia is in Group A alongside Norway, Chile and Spain in the ATP Cup, scheduled from January 1-9 before the Australian Open kicks off on January 17.

Australian Open chief Craig Tiley said on Wednesday he is still not sure if Djokovic will play at Melbourne Park.

Tiley said all players and staff at the Australian Open will be vaccinated or obtain medical exemption by an independent panel of experts.

These requirements prevented Djokovic from confirming whether he would bid to win a record 21 men’s Grand Slam title and 10th Australian Open crown.
