Djokovic advances to Adelaide final despite leg injury

Adelaide, Jan. 7 (BNA): Novak Djokovic defeated Daniil Medvedev 6-3 6-4 on Saturday to advance to the final of the Adelaide International despite sustaining a leg injury during the match.

In the seventh game of the first set, Djokovic hurt his left foot when he slid for the ball and immediately began pulling his hamstring. Take a medical timeout.

The win was Djokovic’s 33rd in a row in Australia since his shock loss in 2018 to Hyun Chung in the quarter-finals of that year’s Australian Open. He did not play last year when he was deported from Australia for not being vaccinated against COVID-19.

Korda advanced to the final after Yoshihito Nishioka retired midway through the semi-finals, reports the Associated Press.

Korda broke Nishioka’s serve in the opening match of the second set and the Japanese left-hander called out a medical for a leg injury.

Nishioka came back to play a few more points before retiring mid-match, as Korda led 7-6(5), 1-0.

Teenage seed Linda Noskova advanced to the women’s singles final after defeating top seed Anas Jaber.
